The
Dojo I would like to thank all
who have come to the website for Nahashu Ryu Karate-do: Roninkan Dojo.
I have often been asked why I chose the name "Ronin-kan" for the name of
my school.
Ronin:
Masterless Warrior
Kan: House/School
Roninkan:
House of the Masterless Warrior
When I chose this name,
it was not to turn my back on those above me, or before me. It was not
to pull away from rank and structure. I chose this name partly because
I began teaching out of my own home, but more because of my personal
outlook on not just martial arts, but all forms of learning.
What is knowledge: what is
taught, or what is learned?
I cannot teach you my
martial arts. I can only demonstrated them, in tedious detail, to you.
It is your job to learn the lessons. It is my job, as instructor to
make those lessons easier for you to learn, but in the end no one can
make you learn anything but yourself. No one forces you to train, at
home or in a dojo, but yourself. We have no masters, aside from the one
inside each of us, the little voice that tells us to push on. We are,
thus, all Ronin; warriors without masters, seeking to better our selves.
Here, we come together to
share and grow, in the house of the Ronin, where the Warrior lives!
